Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 8, 2026

CommentShot is designed to keep screenshot content on your device. The extension processes webpage screenshots locally in your browser and does not upload them to the developer or an external server.

1. What CommentShot does

CommentShot captures the visible area or a full webpage when you explicitly request it. It lets you add arrows, comments, text, highlights, crops, and numbered steps, then export the result as a PNG file.

2. Website content handled

To provide its screenshot features, CommentShot processes the visual content of the active webpage. This may include text and images visible on that page. For full-page capture, the extension temporarily measures and scrolls the active page, captures its visible sections, and restores the original scroll position.

This processing occurs only after you initiate a capture and is limited to the active tab.

3. Local processing and storage

  • Captured webpage images and annotations are processed locally in your browser.
  • A capture is stored temporarily in the browser's local IndexedDB only long enough to open it in the editor, then the temporary capture record is deleted.
  • Annotations remain in the active editor session.
  • A finished PNG is saved to your device only when you choose Download PNG.

4. Data collection and sharing

CommentShot does not transmit screenshot content, annotations, browsing history, URLs, personal information, or usage activity to the developer or to third parties. The extension does not use analytics, advertising trackers, user accounts, or cloud storage.

We do not sell or transfer user data to third parties.

5. Chrome permissions

  • activeTab: accesses the current page only after you start a screenshot capture.
  • scripting: measures and temporarily scrolls the active page for full-page capture.
  • downloads: saves the completed PNG to your device when requested.

6. Remote code

CommentShot does not use remote code. Its JavaScript, HTML, and CSS are packaged with the extension, and it does not download or execute external scripts, remote modules, or dynamically evaluated code.

7. Limited Use

The use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. User data is used only to provide the user-facing screenshot and annotation features described above.

8. Changes to this policy

If CommentShot's data practices change, this policy will be updated before those changes are released. The latest revision date will always appear at the top of this page.
